Meet Emily!
Our Emily is a beautiful, smart seven year old who love life… She will always greats you with a
big smile and a Hi…Hi… in the morning that will put you in a great mood for the rest of the day.
I am not sure I can write a Biography about our precious Emily. She is the best blessing from God
ever. There is just so much to say and so little paper in the world.
Emily is seven years old and is the love of our lives. She is very happy loving child.
Some of Emily’s favorite hobbies include shopping for beautiful dresses, watching TV, and
playing with her brothers and sister. One of her best friends is her older sister Mackenzie who she loves
to play doll house and make believe with.
When Emily isn’t going shopping with Mommy and Aunt Jackie she enjoys watching Mickey
Mouse Club House or Blue’s Clues with her brothers. She likes to talk with her eldest brother Johnathan
though a mix of ASL, huffing through her trach and pointing due to the inability of speech.
Emily was born severely premature at only 24 weeks and from that point on she struggled to survive.
She has had many medical problems that left her with Cerebral Palsy that primarily affects her body
movements and muscle coordination also a trach and G-tube. Emily had a brain bleed and a heart defect
that had to be treated days after birth. Soon after that her biological mother was unfit to take care of
Emily. Emily was then put into Michigan foster care system. Around this time was when Emily’s trach
closed up making a tracheostomy tube needed for life. The first six months of Emily’s life where hard on
Emily, she was in and out of the hospital almost daily some times weekly.
During this time Emily changed foster family’s five times. Then one Michigan winter day we got a phone
call. It was a foster care worker asking if we would come meet a little girl who was extremely medical
fragile due to her vast about of medications needed and her trach. We naturally said yes. When we
walked in to her hospital room Emily was in the bed crying. I picked Emily up and she was so tiny for
her age. Her eyes meet mine and she stop crying. After a while Tom (my husband) and John (Emily older
brother) held her. We talked to the foster mom. At that time she had several other medically fragile
children in her care and told us what would be in store for us if we chose to foster this young beautiful
then 6 month old girl. We left the room toward the end of visiting hours after holding and playing with
Emily. Not even ten feet away from the door I called our case worker and told her that we would love to
foster Emily. Since then Emily has been a part of our ever growing family we adopted Emily in on March
4 2010.
Emily still has many doctor’s appointments, O/T, P/T and speech appointments with breathing
treatments and surgery that she must face. No matter how difficult her medication conditions is for
Emily, she will always give you a Big Smile.
Emily also goes to school at Glen Peters School (MISD) in Macomb. Were all students and
teacher loves our Emily. Emily enjoys PT at school when she can use the walker and go down the
hallway of the school and she can stop in on other class room to see what they are learning about and
greats them with good morning smile.
Emily and her brothers, Johnathan, Nickolas and her sisters Mackenzie are so thankful and are
so excited to get to go to Disney. Emily is very excited to meet Mickey Mouse.
Thank you so much for picking Emily and our family for this once in a life time trip…
